Laureen Hylka attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, New York Art Student League and the Scottsdale Artist's School. These institutions have inspired Laureen and strengthened her mastery of color, composition, value and drawing. Workshops taught by Matt Smith or Gay Faulkenbury have helped to strengthen her plein air skills.
Laureen is a member of the American Artist Professional League (NYC), the Tucson Plein Air Painters Society, Lyme Art Association, Lyme Academy College of Fine Art, and an Elected Member of the Connecticut Plein Air Painters Society. The Chrysalis Gallery, Southampton, NY and the Art Works Gallery at the Philadelphia Museum of Fine Art represent her work.
Her painting, "Vermillion Glow" was chosen for the invitation and poster for the Hartford Food Alliance 2003 farm fundraiser. Laureen's work was published in the March 2004 issue of American Artist magazine.
Through participation in juried national shows, gallery shows and invitational paint-outs, Laureen has become a desired artist among art collectors. Currently, her series of paintings from the Blackstone Valley Heritage Corridor have become a traveling show. The show began with a viewing at Doric Hall in the Boston Statehouse, 2004 and is showing at the Slater Mill Gallery, Pawtucket, Rl until November 5, 2005.
