Dear Connecticut Plein Air Society,
We are thrilled to invite the members of your organization to apply for the first annual Cape Ann Plein Air (CAPA), a weeklong celebration of plein air painting October 10-16, 2016. We hope you will forward this email to your membership mailing list to let them know about this exciting opportunity.
CAPA 2016 will provide a backdrop for local, regional and national artists who will compete for at least $16,000 in prizes and awards. Up to 40 artists will be juried to participate in the competition, and five additional local artists will be chosen as alternates. You may submit your application through August 15 at Online Juried Shows here with a non-refundable fee of $50 and samples of your work.

Jurors, Judges, and Awards
Award-winning plein air artist Colin Page will serve as CAPA Entry Juror and nationally renowned plein air artist Ray Hassard will serve as the CAPA Awards Judge. There will be awards of $6,000 for first place, $4,000 for second place and $2,000 for third place, in addition to two $250 honorable mention awards. Additional $500 themed awards and a People’s Award will be granted.

 

Housing and Activities

Complimentary housing will be provided to juried artists by host families across the four Cape Ann communities: Gloucester, Rockport, Essex and Manchester. The weeklong CAPA festival will include an opening artist reception at North Shore Arts Association, a Grand Awards Gala at the Rockport Art Association & Museum (RAA&M) on Saturday, October 15, a Painting-by-the-Sea “Quick Draw” event in Manchester, a Paint Essex plein air paint out and sale, and workshops, artist demos, and many other special events and exhibitions.
