This level of membership is intended to recognize artists who demonstrate a high degree of professionalism in their work and who are committed to work together to promote plein air painting as a profession. We plan to organize special exhibition opportunities and programs to promote plein air painting and the professional recognition of our elected artist members. In return, we expect Elected Artist Members to invest their time and resources – above and beyond basic membership – to make these special opportunities and programs a reality.


  • Membership in CT Plein Air Painters Society for at least two years and dues paid in full for the current calendar year.
  • Accepted into at least two CPAPS Annual Membership Exhibitions.
  • Participated in at least two paintouts during the current calendar year.
  • Submit an Elected Artist Application form (below) including the name of the Elected Artist Sponsor.
  • Submit an artist’s statement and resume (pdf format or Word document).
  • Submit digital images of (6) plein air paintings completed within the past year, not completed under an instructor’s supervision.
  • Submit a jury fee in the amount of $30



Approval of elected artist membership is based heavily on the quality and professional presentation of your work. It is important that the images of paintings submitted are representative of your best plein air work completed during the past two years, not under an instructor’s supervision. The work submitted with the application should present a cohesive body of work.

The six (6) paintings should display a mature style and offer a consistency of vision and execution in your approach to plein air painting. These paintings should be recent work, not completed under an instructor’s supervision. While we do not advocate one style of painting over another, the paintings should have a feeling of plein air whether painterly or in a more realistic style. We expect to see confident paint handling with a strong command of composition, drawing, values, perspective, atmosphere, and color.

The digital images submitted with the application must be in jpeg file format, RGB color, 72 dpi resolution, and 650 pixels on the longest dimension. Each digital image should show the painting only (no extraneous background). File names for images must include the artist’s last name and the title of the work (i.e., JonesSummerMeadow).



All applications will be reviewed, and voted on, by the entire Elected Artist Membership. Successful applicants for Elected Artist Membership must receive a positive vote by a majority of all Elected Artist Members.

Membership Dues

Please make sure that your Associate Membership dues have been paid for the current year.

Deadline for application

Deadline: All application materials must be received by no later than November 1.

Notification: All applicants will be notified of election results by December 30.
