We thought it would be fun to paint sunflowers, and where better than at Buttonwood Farms, in Griswold CT. With the festival beginning July 22, we can look forward to fields of sunflowers for acre upon acre. In fact, it might be wise to bring extra yellow paint! Oh, and perhaps a few dollars for a bouquet to take home and, of course, a dish of ice cream.

The following is from the farm’s website, www.buttonwoodfarmicecream.com:

“THE SUNFLOWER EVENT SEASON WILL RUN FROM JULY 22-30. Each year we plant over 14 acres of sunflowers and harvest approximately 300,000 blooms for your viewing pleasure and to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut, a non-profit organization dedicated to granting wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions. Sunflowers are available while supplies last. Bouquets of 5 sunflowers will be given in exchange for a $10 donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut.”

Their website is replete with great photos, and directions as well. They ask only that we remain aware of pedestrian and tractor traffic and make sure we don’t block any trails or access.
